{"id":12,"date":"2014-12-17T13:38:59","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T13:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.educatorpoet.com\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2021-04-20T01:06:33","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T01:06:33","slug":"curriculum-specialist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/educatorpoet.com\/?page_id=12","title":{"rendered":"Ashay Kids!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Ashay Kids!<\/em>\u00a0were designed for the children of <em>Ashay University<\/em> adult students who desire knowledge about global African history and culture from an African-centered perspective for their children.\u00a0 \u00a0Patterned after <em>Ashay Clubs<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Ashay Kids!<\/em>\u00a0serves children ages 8 to 11; <em>Ashay Babies!<\/em> are for children 5 to 7.\u00a0 Classes are taught by Mwalimu Melodye Mic\u00ebre Van Putten, M.A. and facilitated by the <em>Guide to Self-Knowledge, Jr.<\/em> workbook.\u00a0 Class participation of the Ashay U adult \u2013 parent\/grandparent is also required. The idea here is that children need information reinforced, therefore, an influential adult \u2013 parent or grandparent \u2013 must be enrolled in Ashay U classes for their child(ren) to be eligible for this program.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Ashay Kids!<\/em> curriculum includes the <em>African Foundation Timeline<\/em>, the values of Ma\u2019at and the Nguzo Saba, the African Empires of Kemet, Ghana, Mali and Songhay and general African knowledge (geography, proverbs, Swahili words) along with empowered messages presented in an interactive and creative manner.
